You've got enough

Western societies have enough.  We don't need anything more.  And we need to do more to help others, not ourselves.  That's what a high level UN official thinks:

Environmental concerns have caused one high-ranking UN official to declare that “the West” does not need more cars, televisions, and other consumer luxuries.

United Nations Development Programme head Helen Clark told AFP in an interview: “So the issue is how to get human development that will see it continue to rise for the world’s poorest people and people in developing countries. Because frankly human development in the West – we don’t need more cars, more TV, whatever. Our needs are by and large satisfied, although the recession has put a lot of strains on that.”

Clark, the former prime minister of New Zealand, also stressed the responsibility of richer countries to reduce their environmental footprint: "There is, in my opinion, a very heavy responsibility on the countries of the north to look at how they sustain their living standards with a much lower environmental footprint."

So, according to her, I have enough.  I don't need any more "luxuries".  Because she and her cohorts know better.

Why do I have a sneaky suspicion that she and the rest of her cronies at the UN haven't restricted their own consumption?

Kenneth Anderson wrote a post at Volokh Conspiracy about the name of a United Nations "entity".  It is:

Open-ended Ad Hoc Working Group of the General Assembly on the Integrated and Coordinated Implementation of and Follow-up to the Major United Nations Conferences and Summits in the Economic and Social Fields

There's discussion over whether this is a snarky attack on the UN, or if it is a recognition of the diffuse nature of the UN.  And other stuff.

In any case, I just love how that name epitomizes the United Nations.  If that's snarky or sage, I'll let you decide.  Read the post at Volokh.

Only the United Nations could top the disgusting outrage of Obama awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the communist Dolores Huerta. Here’s how:

The United Nations has “hit a new low” with its decision to honor Zimbabwe strongman Robert Mugabe as an international tourism leader, House Foreign Affairs Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) said Tuesday.

Mugabe has been accused of rigging elections, cracking down on political opponents and plunging his country into economic ruin. The president is an international pariah subject to a travel ban by the United States and the European Union.

But on Tuesday, Mugabe and one of his political allies, Zambian President Michael Sata, inked an agreement for their countries to co-host the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s general assembly in August 2013. The U.N. also sent Mugabe and Sata a letter asking them to serve as “global leaders” for tourism.

They must have picked Mugabe because so many tourists travel to his country to watch the fly-covered, pot-bellied children starve.

The UNWTO controversy comes just days after U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay called for the suspension of international sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe since 2002.

Under British colonial rule, Rhodesia was known as the Breadbasket of Africa. Then came Hope & Change. It is now known as Zimbabwe. The white-run farms that produced such abundance have been seized in the name of The People and given over to weeds. Mugabe, a socialist, rules with an iron fist from his palace. Inflation has reduced the currency to worthlessness.

At least Zimbabwe offers hope to the USA. If we continue on our current course, the UN will start to like us.

Nope....no matter what we do, the UN will hate America.  Because America stands for everything that the despots of the world detest.  We are their enemy, but will we finally realize that they are ours?

Diplomacy at its finest?

United Nations special envoy Kofi Annan arrived on Monday in Damascus to meet with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on the heels of a weekend massacre that left more than 100 people--including what appeared to be "rows of bloody children"--dead.

On Sunday, the U.N. Security Council condemned the killings "in the strongest possible terms" and called for an independent investigation.

"I have come to Syria at a critical moment in this crisis," Annan said in a statement upon his arrival. "I am personally shocked and horrified by the tragic incident in Houla two days ago, which took so many innocent lives, children, women and men. This was an appalling crime, and the [U.N.] Security Council has rightly condemned it."

Ooooohh.....strongest possible terms. Hiroshima was strongest possible terms. Normandy was strongest possible terms. But for the UN, it means "we won't invite you to be on the Human Rights Council, alongside such darlings as China, Cuba, Jordan, Libya, Russia and Saudi Arabia". Or we won't invite you to our next embassy reception.

I just love how Kofi says:

"I intend to have serious and frank discussions with President Bashar Al-Assad."

Nice deal you have there.  You oversaw the completely corrupt "oil for food" program, yet you are still feeding at the UN trough.  And accomplishing nothing.

Al Capone once said "You can go further with a kind word and a gun, than with a kind word alone." One well-placed Tomahawk cruise missile could solve this issue.  Sure there would be some collateral damage.  But it would accomplish far more than all the talking that Annan and the UN will do over the next several months.

Give it back, they say

James Anaya, the UN special rapporteur on indigenous peoples, has recommended that the US government give the Black Hills region of the South Dakota back to Native American populations. That region, of course, includes Mount Rushmore. He did meet with the Obama administration during a 12-day visit to the United States, although no member of Congress would meet with him.

“The sense of loss, alienation and indignity is pervasive throughout Indian Country,” said Anaya. “I’m talking about restoring to indigenous peoples what obviously they’re entitled to and they have a legitimate claim to in a way that is not divisive but restorative.”

How about if the UN gives back some prime NYC riverfront real estate?  Maybe they should find some other city and country where they can ignore parking tickets.

Watch your wallet

Fox News has a report on the upcoming United Nations Rio summit.  Those world-government do-gooders have a plan and boy will it be coming for you.

The upcoming United Nations environmental conference on sustainable development will consider a breathtaking array of carbon taxes, transfers of trillions of dollars from wealthy countries to poor ones, and new spending programs to guarantee that populations around the world are protected from the effects of the very programs the world organization wants to implement, according to stunning U.N. documents examined  by Fox News.

The main goal of the much-touted, Rio + 20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, scheduled to be held in Brazil from June 20-23, and which Obama Administration officials have supported,  is to make dramatic and enormously expensive changes in the way that the world does nearly everything—or, as one of the documents puts it, "a fundamental shift in the way we think and act."

Where have we heard about "fundamental transformation" before?  Oh, yes...now I remember.  It was part of that "Hope & Change" thing.

Pay for itself?  Yep...sure it will.  Just like those florescent light bulbs.  Just like those electric cars.  Just like every other governmental "investment".
